Demolishing of the Grove Park Wrestling Gym

Just a wee update. The boots have all gone, but everything else is still available.

If you want good wrestling mats or just mats and a steel storage locker for your garage, then they are still available. The two pools are still available if guys want them. I'll put a second note up on the water/pool wrestling forum.

Thank you for the inspiration back in the 90s. Everything was easier in a way. We just met each other. No pay per view! Was genuine and real.

So sorry to hear you are ending all this.
You were always a great source of inspiration with the newsletter you created and I had the joy to visit your ring and fight there with Ozboxer.
Thank you so much for everything you did for the community Ian!
Take care

Thanks for that. I appreciate it.

They were great days – and late evenings – of wrestling in that big shed.

Such a shame to hear about another venue going. Had some good times there, long ago!

Farewell then, the Grove Park ring. Had the honour of a group meet there once, then a match which didn’t go my way.

Greetings from North Bay Village, FL, and thanks for your post. Sorry to hear that the Grove Park ring has closed. Any chance of sending me a pic of the white boots? Are they solid white or do they have colored stripes and other types of trim? Are they Lonsdales or Minotaurs or Geezers? Many thanks in advance for your information. Cheers, JG

I'll send you a pic of me wrestling in them to give you an idea. The pics are a wee bit 'racy' so I'll send them to you directly rather than on here.

What a pity ! Don’t get rid of your pro boots and trunks ! Keep them Iain

The trunks – all of them – went into the bin the other day. I kept one or two respectable pairs for my occasional visits to the swimming pool or gay sauna.

I'll never wrestle again in this life, and the bags were just taking up space.

The truth is, we get our time to enjoy the dream, and then it ends.

Hi All,

I recently advertised on Meetfighter for guys interested in setting up a weekly meeting for wrestling and wrestling practice. The response was not good, so I have decided to demolish the big shed where my previous wrestling clubs and the wrestling ring used to be based.

I'm clearing it out at the moment, but by the end of the year I'll have taken down the whole building and the side building. A big bit of underground gay wrestling history in London will be lost, but as we say in Scotland, "C'est la vie!"

The wrestling ring itself had long gone to a small promotion based in Blackpool, which I think eventually closed down. So I've no idea where it ended up.

Now, the reason that I am posting here is to offer anybody here FREE OF CHARGE (so don't jump on me again, Meetfighters) the old mats and wrestling kit that used to be stored there. The base mats are the blue/red-sided jigsaw mats, and while the blue side is pretty well-used, the red side is as pristine as 'virgin'. The size is around 16'x16' of wrestling space. There are also a series of cover mats, all black in colour, which, while thinner, can be used in their own right as a viable wrestling surface.

In addition to the mats are two big swimming/wrestling pools. One is a six-man inflatable that, while it needs deep chemical cleaning (chemicals provided) before use, would be a viable piece of kit for your back garden or yard when London gets tropical. The second pool has never been used and is still boxed. It's about 14' wide. I had had an idea, if guys were interested, to use it as a kind of 'wrestling pit' surrounded by a cage. That idea never, due to lack of interest in the community, came to fruition. The big pool also has potential for water/pool wrestling.

There are also my old wrestling boots available if anybody wants them. They are available in black, red, or white. I had multiple bags of my old wrestling trunks and leotards, but I doubted if anybody would want to wear them, so they have all already been binned. I hope one of the binmen was a speedo fetishist!

There is also available a large metal storage unit with shelving. It's a pretty neat piece of kit and could be useful for some guys to use in their garage.

If anybody here wants any of the above, then please contact me here or via my Meetfighters profile. As I say, it won't cost you anything, but YOU must arrange for their uplift. A flatbed vehicle or van, driven down the back of the lane, will be enough. They're worth grabbing if you want to set up a club of your own (good luck with that) or just want to have them or some of them for personal use. I can't really demolish the shed until I've got rid of them all, so I'm keen to get rid ASAP.
