Once you have been promoted it shows that you are serious about training and attend classes regularly which is a very good thing.

Hey. Congrats for your promotion. When I got my blue belt around 1 year ago, I thought I was not good enough. Comparing myself to others.. but the thing is I was much better than when I started jiu jitsu years ago. The new belt means you’re ready to run the next level path. And it makes you to push yourself to improve.
I stopped worrying about performance and just showed up for every training session I could, and was when I started seeing most improvement.
Enjoy the path and have fun!
Cheers

Same feelings for me.
I started BJJ 12 years ago now, and i trained to have fun with other fighters of the club (all friends now).
I also get my ass kicked so often 😅.
Now as a black belt, i do my best to take care with new members on the club, and still have fun.
..and still getting ass kicked sometimes .. 😉

Congrats on the promotion! Similar experience. Neverous as hell to get into grappling. Didn't want to be the weird guy getting hard at the gym. Avoided the good looking guys when drilling (there are a lot of them), and kept to myself for a while. I think it took about a year for me to feel completely comfortable there, and now I can't imagine not doing it. I've made some good friends, pushed myself physically, and had a great time. I've been training for 4 years, had my belt belt for more than a year, and love that most days after work I can go somewhere to get away from the world and focus on something I really enjoy.

So I got shark tanked into Blue Belt. What a crazy ride. A few years ago, I was on here worried about being gay, really kind of hating myself for it, thinking how much less of an issue it would be for me to try a martial art or combat sport if I just wasn’t who I was. Well I finally said fuck it and started training. I’ve been at it every weeknight for a little over a year now, and I had a blast getting my ass kicked and promoted into my new belt at the end. I just trained and didn’t worry about anything else except improving, having fun, being a good and safe person to train with, and not taking anything or myself too seriously. Those are the only things I can control, so why worry about anything else?

Congratulations on achieving something that most men will never have the courage to attempt. It’s a long frustrating journey for most people, and at times we can wonder why we are even doing it.

But when we let go and just enjoy the journey, have fun, and be a safe training partner that will help everyone, it all comes together.
