My gym is part of a national chain, with a broad range of patronage.
The trainer I work with is a 36 year old retiring MMA fighter, hetero, and he's excellent with me. Time and money well spent.
The gym is congenial and members socialize. During the day a sizeable portion of members are adult, with younger members training throughout the day.
I'm openly gay and have not felt uncomfortable with any group.
For many years I lived in San Francisco and belonged to gyms that truly catered to gay men.
No matter the circumstances, it's how you approach your purpose, and interaction with other members should have an easy flow.
My gym is a social center and a place where older guys work out. Unfortunately, they open it up to High School students congregating at various hours. It is disruptive.
Mine only opens freely to the kids in the summer. Since I go at 6:30, I rarely see any kids there, so it's not an issue for me. But I know later it does become a problem.
