Who remembers the Brawler Fight Club from 25 years ago? It took place once a month late night at the old Hellfire Club downtown. Men arrived and challenged each other to fights in the underground venue. Others arranged their fights ahead of time. There was little structure to the event. Anyone could fight anyone they wanted as long as they could agree to the rules of a match. I would leave one of those fight nights in the early morning hours after having five or ten matches with five or ten hot wrestlers. Maybe we even wrestled there!
I doubt it too. It took place in The Hellfire Club (a notorious sex club) in the meatpacking district. Those kinds of places no longer exist as far as I am aware. The organizer, Joe, was also a manager at the club and convinced them to turn over one night a month just for this event. It took a lot of work to organize. He charged a $25 cover, even back then. Some of us, who he knew were going to help get fights going, got in with no charge. He gave us club paraphernalia like t-shirts and one time, a real nice jacket. We also got good publicity. Michael Musto came and did interviews. He did an article in the Village Voice. We also did a photo shoot for a local magazine. He would get 50 to 100 guys for a night. Many of the BG wrestlers of the time would come down. It was a special time, and it is hard to see anything like it coming together again.

I still have one t-shirt too. I also had a jacket but gave it away to someone it fit better. I had a couple wife beaters that eventually wore out.
