Try it with a buddy. Can you find a picture of the hold anywhere on the internet? I don't think you can get any leverage to increase the pressure and make the hold more intense. The guy applying the holds crotch would protect the victim's neck.
A 'full nelson' from the front would not be a full nelson as such and be more like a head crank against the face. The guy would possibly arch backward if you had a height advantage over him, a positional height advantage, I mean, relative to the hold itself. His hands and arms would be free to attack you, though.
I'm looking at setting up a weekly wrestling coaching class in London, UK. Is anybody interested in that? The entire 'Nelson set' would be part of that coaching. The Nelsons themselves, as a whole, are a pretty powerful set of moves to have in your mat and ring armoury.
