Hub Wrestling Pop-Up

New to wrestling? Looking to meet like minded guys in the area? Wanting to improve your own skills and abilities? Hub Wrestling might be for you! We're a new up-and-coming LGBTQ+ amateur wrestling group starting up in the city of Boston!

We’re bringing the mat out to Boston Common for The Mat Is Out, a casual pop-up wrestling event next Saturday, September 12 at 10:30 AM. We’ll be at the Soldiers & Sailors Monument on the Boston Common.

We've had one practice so far, and some of those people who came to our first practice will likely be there. We’ll be doing some mobility training, HIIT workouts, wrestling, and going over fundamentals. You definitely won’t be behind or walking into something you’re expected to already know. But honestly, it’s very low key. There’s no sign-up, no fee, and no expectation that you have to wrestle. You’re welcome to come meet some of the Hub folks, watch what we’re doing, hang out, or jump on the mat if you feel like giving it a try.

It does! But honestly the biggest challenge is getting these clubs off the ground and working, so I'm all supportive right now, even if he pins me in a second :P

Slightly related, maybe...I was in Austin two weekends ago and went to Barton Springs and found myself on a floating platform doing aqua jiu-jitsu, or aqua jits, as they call it, and it was a blast. A floating platform with mats sitting on top and you tapout or splash out – it almost becomes like a sumo match up as you roll your opponent off the platform and into the natural spring pool. Open to anyone and everyone. There is not a lot of serious jiu-jitsu happening unless two evenly guys get on the mats. Mostly just for fun and the guy that sets it up uses it to try and introduce fun movement and perhaps become interested in jiu-jitsu. Everyone was great and very respectable and having fun.

Check around to see if something does exist, and if not, it’s a perfect opportunity to start something new yourself!

I had quick look but didn’t find anything. I also wouldn’t know where to start.

I have actually trained there before for a month. Timing wasn’t working. I should sign up again.
