Confirming a match the same morning and then ghosting is bad faith. That's exactly what the abuse report flag is there for. A no-show after confirmed plans is a legitimate reason to flag a profile for "no-show", and I'd encourage you to use it.
Just to clarify one thing, since it often gets mixed up: personal preference is not the same as ageism. Everyone on this site is free to choose who they meet, and no one owes anyone an explanation for declining. "No means no", but if he confirms and then bails at the last minute, flag him.
The ageism on this site is totally inexcuseable. No one at the dojo cares about age why should such incredible bogorty exist on this site? Preference is just another word for bigotry.
I believe he didn't like being called out on his behavior----a no-show. How do you explain your poor behavior??----insult me by saying, "You are old." LOL.
Had a younger guy sent me a challenge the other day, too late to meet him, but I asked him about the age difference. He said he was ok with it because the older guys show up for the match!
Really appreciate reading these affirmative posts! I'm 63 and on occasion really feel my age...some people are upfront that they want people closer to their age which is fine but I'd rather have someone decline outright than beat around the bush with all kinds of excuses...fortunately most people have been cool. And some of my best matches have been with people in my age range!
I agree. I respect the men who have an age preference and are upfront about that preference. But, to setup a DATE, TIME, and LOCATION---and then go silent an hour or 2 before the match?? That is boyish behavior and not manly behavior.
I adjusted my body/physique preferences for him as he was not an athletically endowed person–but I agreed to wrestle him. LOL–somehow he thought his "age" erased all of his negatives. Silly boy. Silly boy. I lowered my standards to accommodate him.
I often wonder why all this prejudice. Is it looks, less strength, less muscular, or is it that they may LOSE to someone older? At the dojo today I rolled with several people based on chance as we had tap - out, meaning that if u got tapped you went to the back of the line to wait for the next submision. I rolled with a brown belt and went 1-1 (two separate chances I drew him by chance) and neither one of us ridiculed or made fun of the other but praised the other for their skill during the roll. In real wrestling (not the pre-scripted partly acting pro stuff) wrestlers generally respect each other. Years of collegiate wrestling proved this and now years of bjj confirms this. Thus why the younger on this site show disrepect for older is simply untenable!
I’ve been wrestling IN the USA and a few times around the world since age 25 (1995 approximately).
WF NYC 2026 was 1st time someone said I was too old to wrestle.
1. He had contacted me repeatedly online for over 2 months to schedule a NYC match.
2. On the morning of the scheduled match, reconfirmed with him. YES, we are still on for a match.
3. Went to location—he wasn’t there & stopped communicating.
4. That evening , later, I asked him what happened?
5. That’s when he said: “You are old.”
6. My profile & pics are current and nothing was changed since we originally booked.
ANGRY? No. He simply revealed his character quality (low class) and his integrity (very lacking).
This is just the 1st time ever this happened. Luckily, for all of these years I’ve fortunately only encountered mature—not childish—wrestlers.
Since the dude was well aware of your age for two months, I doubt that he ever had the intention of actually meeting up in the first place. Some guys get off on the anticipation of meeting, but when the day and time arrive, they come up with any lame excuse why it didn't happen (I unexpectedly had to pick up my brother at the airport). Did this guy have a lot of previous opponents?
So true !!!! I'm coming on 76 & have started taking boxing class about 5 months ago & loving it !! Great bunch of fellas I train with .....very friendly & inclusive !
THank you---and so are you. I've tried to set a match date/time with you over the years but our schedules never cooperated. Maybe someday. Wrestle on, hot man!
Mike...his loss. You are a very skilled wrestler and a great guy! He was probably afraid to get beat by an older man! We need to wrestle again sometime. Be well my friend!
1) I would enjoy a grapple with you
2) Why did he go through all the SET UP?
3) If age was a factor, why not put that on your profile, And/Or say something in the beginning
#2 exactly---my age hasn't changed since my last birthday. Did he just NOW see my age in profile? WF is okay, but from my experience it draws too many "not interested in real wrestling" types (they seem to be seeking non-wrestling/play around wrestling). WF has no control over that though.
I agree with you....and it seeking ONLY a particular age, then you will miss MANY awesome opponents. But then, not all are looking for a real wrestling experience😏

Agree with Profan 58 when he wrote of a younger guy staying that "older guys show up for the match". More reliable.

Thank you. I've had great matches with all ages---I think greatest age of an opponent was 76, but many others in 60s and 70s. It's about attitude.
