I consider myself a rookie and an amateur wrestler, even though I have been around the block a time or two. I have had formal training in a few different martial arts as well as instruction in wrestling from friends.

As a rule of thumb, the first match I tend to plan when wrestling someone new amounts to no more than roughhousing on the mats. Only after we get a feel for each other’s limits will I agree to ramp it up from there.
