Boxed a guy today (he's no longer on the site).  We went six rounds.  Fast as all hell and slippery as the proverbial eel; it took me a bit to find the range, but I eventually did.  Which meant, of course, that he found it, too, and I took my share of shots.  I won't say I enjoyed every one, but I certainly value them.

A year (or so) into my boxing journey, I'm still amazed that I started it at all, and I've faced fourteen men with the gloves and I've not only survived, I've done pretty damn well against some of them.  Granted, some of them were going VERY easy on me and could have turned me into mulch if they'd been minded to, but I still did it.

With every man I face without coming up with a reason not to go through with it, with every punch I take without falling apart, the timid kid who shied way from hard contact and who went considerably out of his way to avoid fights becomes a dimmer and dimmer memory, and I can't honestly say that I'll miss him.  Meanwhile, for some reason, these slightly altered lyrics from the song "A Way Back to Then" keep coming to mind:
