Real Life Fucking Sucks Sometimes
My boss handed in her resignation on Monday, and told the Powers That Be that her last day will be February 6. Once she leaves, I will be in charge of running the department, which always translates into 12- to 14-hour days. So guess who spent the last couple of days letting his Wrestlefest opponents know that he probably won't be able to make their appointments?
Yeah, yeah, First World Problems, but I'm still furious.

You had made plans for those days for after work.

This is one of those situations where you have to just explain to everyone that you are going to probably be unavailable, and it wasn't anything of your doing. If those guys can't put on their big-boy pants and accept your explanation, then that's on them.
Hopefully you will have some time on the weekend - especially during Wrestlefest - to hang out for an hour or two and get your stress level down with some good old-fashioned grappling. You're a great guy and I'm proud of you!

1/09/2026 1:14 AMJust to be clear - I'm not getting a promotion. This is a job I've done before. I get to be the acting head of the department without the pay raise or status raise - only I get to do it indefinitely instead of just for two weeks.

Even temporarily you are performing duties of a higher position. you should be paid appropriately for that time.

My boss and I actually get along very well. She's gone to the (metaphoric) mat for me a couple of times, and she was the one who suggested that I was ready to take over the department the first time she went on vacation after the previous director retired.

Do not allow yourself to work extra for FREE. Remember what Madonna said, people do not get what they want because they do not ask for what they want. I left this comment to HELP you have a different perspective. Please do not tell me they will not pay more until YOU ASK for more money. You will be doing the work of 2 people so make sure you get the reward you deserve if you're good at your job. Do not let them force you into been a wage slave. Because unpaid hours are modern day slavery even for well paid jobs GOOD LUCK
