To WrestleFest or not... that is definitely the question

Maybe some others are in the same situation, but I am currently thinking about going to WrestleFest in Berlin this year or not. On the one hand, it should be an obvious yes - lots of wrestlers in the same place, meet new people, and comparatively its not that far away from me.

But, on the other hand, it is still a big investment of cost and time - and not ideal timing in terms of work. I could only arrive on Friday and then leave on Sunday. Im not such an active wrestler these days - I dont train BJJ or wrestling anymore, and while I do occasionally go to organised group meets, I dont always feel like I fit in there as much as the others as I dont have the same passion or dedication for wrestling as most people there.

I guess my other worry is finding a place to stay, turning up to Berlin on my own, finding my way around, and having the general feeling of being the nerdy guy at the back in sports class who gets picked last. So I just wondered if anyone else felt in the same situation?

My situation is worse: I am a continent or more away from nearest amateur wrestling meet. But if you meet only one guy to be a Ringerfreund, I could be worth it.

I can recommend you to come and trust me, you won't regret it. the atmosphere at the monthly fight club is every time awesome and now with more wrestlers coming from around the world. it is a chance you won't get every time. Just come, have a nice time and meet cool people and connect. Nothing to lose currently, right? any questions? just reach out to Damon or MassDave or gladly to me as well :D

He still runs them from the same house. His account got hacked and has trouble posting the event here. They are still ran around the same times of year.

I have always wanted to attend a Wrestlefest but being married complicates things, even when she (or he) knows about my love of rassling. I've felt like being gone for a weekend alone might put things "over the edge" in my relationship but if a trusted friend invited me to go and share a room, it would be much easier. All that to say, go with a friend. Deano

I don’t really have friends who want to go / people I do know going I think want to go alone so it’s easier to meet people (which I can completely understand).

We will see and thanks for all the nice and interesting replies here and the messages :-)

You should go. There will be a bunch of guys who don't always feel like they fit in.

It happens in my case that I will be around Berlin on these days. Not sure if I will attending. Anyway it you have challenges it’s a good investment.

So, I have decided to give it a go and join in with WrestleFest EU this year - lots to arrange and currently looking at places to stay (I think I have found a possible person to share the costs with / and maybe tag team partner), so lets see what happens. I will probably lean more towards private matches but also join in with a couple of organised sessions.

Wait until the last minute for the accomodation. There’s usually good deals. AirBnb is the best option. Perfect for the private fights.

isnt that a bit risky with lots of other people also looking as well?

It’s not a major event as to fill everything up. Berlin is a huge city with plenty of accomodations options. I would wait. It’s too early.

I felt exactly the same, first time at Ringercamp Berlin in 2022 and then Wrestlefest last year.
There will probably be moments where you feel you don't belong there, but there will also be moments you'll never forget.
Now make up your mind :)

Arrive on Friday and Leave on Sunday - The Jet lag would be brutal. Can you attend one of these closer to home?
