When I was put in body scissors. Usually I try and apply a claw hold on the quadriceps area. Usually the hold is broken immediately. Not sure if this works universally though.
oops, I just noticed the match is with RNC23, he mostly uses straight scissors and prefers guard/back mount scissors so the ankle lock I showed will work, the guard break may be a bit slow as he tends to clamp down fast and hard. That being said if you did BJJ (no gi is submission wrestling), you would be able to stay out from between his legs pretty consistently. From the guard position you may focus on trying to keep his legs on your hips where he can't compress you.
That being said, I have been advising him on his workouts so good luck to you
I went ahead and did a video addressing this in quite a bit of detail tonight. Sorry that it's a solo video but I have tried to address this question as thoroughly as I could
Staying out from between someone's legs is more complicated because we're talking several positions where there are entries into the scissors from various positions. From mount they roll you into side mount and roll you back between their legs. If you turtle they can offset your base and roll you into them. Guard is a scissor position. I'd say get good at guard breaks and passes, predict scissors and prevent the ankle lock. Try to hold at the ankle, it's the end of a long lever, trying to push on the quad or knee is harder because there's still leverage. When rolling focus on technique over speed or muscle, you'll notice openings and mistakes if you let them be the spazes on the mats.
I have a match coming up with the guy that’s really good at body Scissors- I need to figure out a way to escape them quickly or better yet just not get caught in them period. My core is hard but not sure how long a fl x would last. Any ideas?

5/15/2026 7:30 AMDepends on the type of scissors. Side scissors you try to push/pull the ankles. If you're facing them, you're in guard, here you go:
