Las Vegas suffers from the heat island effect, global warming (avg 45 days 32 or lower in 1950s, now just 8), air po;;ution, not to mention so much space wasted for cars with very narrow sidewalks, few protected bike lanes, and high speedt limits causing multiple deaths annually. Public transit is WAY better for the planet and in many cases could be used. The myth that it takes longer is based on an unfair comparison. The time needed to work to afford the difference in cost between owning and using a car and using transit is huge. It easily wipes out the alleged time advanatge when nly an individual trip time is used. An Uber frot he Strip to me costs about $20, the bus $2. To earn the extra $18 (after taxes) one must generally work over an hour to make up thus difference, more if you do not get a high wage. The total travel time by bus even with waiting and walking to/from the stop does not even come close to this extra hour. On top of this the local buses have free wi-fi you can get something done enroute as well, thus saving you more time. Additionally, caring about the environment and our health (made worse by air pollution) is everyone's responsibility as well.

Cheers for that chap, as someone who went through the boomer years and did everything in gas guzzlers and had all the advantages of those times you now tell people who are in harder times what to do… people who’s generation is statistically poorer, less chance to get a house or have the advantages you had (internet aside) they must now give up all the advantages their parents and grandparents had.

Also this is a meet fighters site, not pop up Gretas manifesto.

Pull it together.

From AI:
Reducing unnecessary driving is a critical step in mitigating climate change, as transportation is a major source of greenhouse gas emissions, contributing nearly 40% of air pollution. While not necessarily signaling the immediate end of the planet, failing to reduce car reliance hampers efforts to stay within sustainable temperature limits.
Key points regarding the impact of reducing driving:
Emissions Reduction: Cutting down on driving directly lowers carbon dioxide, with transportation being a primary contributor to climate change.
Alternatives to Driving: Walking, biking, or using public transportation for short trips can significantly reduce emissions and improve air quality.
Long-Term Impact: Even with the rise of electric vehicles, reducing total vehicle miles traveled is necessary for environmental sustainability and traffic reduction.
Individual & Systemic Change: While individual actions like driving less make a difference, they are most effective when paired with structural changes in transportation infrastructure.
Driving less also offers personal benefits, such as saving money on fuel and maintenance, improving health through active transport, and reducing traffic congestion.

I hope no one would argue the benefits of conservation, especially when its something we all benefit from.

That said, southern California's public transit is abysmal. They're only just now doing things to change that (e.g., high-speed rail), but due to corruption and greed, that progress is painfully slow.

I've used the rail system that's in place now many times, and although the design isn't perfect, it is clean, reliable, and efficient. Thing is, its limited in destinations.

Most rail systems in California were abandoned in the 1950s in lieu of personal transportation (the car was the future back then). That's true for most of America, which is still a half century behind the rest of the developed world.

The good news is, there are many neighborhoods where most of what an average family needs is all in their neighborhoods and many times within walking distance. The negative is the high affordability. In those enclaves housing and rents are even higher than the surrounding areas which are already the highest in the nation.
