David is not only a great fighter on the mats but also a great fighter for this sport and the community. It was a pleasure to participate the open mats event in Mechelen. Although I learnt David's name for a while since he is populair on the MF site, I hadn't got any opportunity to meet. When I saw the announcement of this event, it did interest me and with the encouraging messages from David, I decided to give a try for the first time to participate such open mats event.

David is kind enough to also organize a dinner the day before the event. It was the first time to meet him and I must say that he is more handsome than his pictures on his profile. David is very friendly and easy-going. The chatting during the dinner was nice and casual and it was interesting to learn more about him and how he organizes different events and his club.

The event started as planned and everything was going smoothly. David was busy with the organization but also sparring with different people. Luckily I got the opportunity to roll with him for two continuous rounds. David has advanced and delicate skills and is very strong but also caring his opponent. The fight was starting from the ground and he was sitting with the open guard to welcome his opponent into the dead zone between his legs. I tried my best to go around and to find more attacking opportunities but eventually my tapping was unavoidable. The rolling was interesting and technical. Afterwards we had also some discussions about some moves. It was definitely pleasure to spar with David. Unfortunately his club is far, otherwise it would be interesting to participate the training there as well.

Great thanks to David for his efforts organizing this successful event! I hope in the near future to meet David again in Mechelen or in other fighting events! Take good care!

We had a great encounter during the BJJ ALL-INC Open Mat in Mechelen. Somehow I’m really sorry for having beaten him 3:0 as he’s indeed a skilled fighter. As a small consolation, I taught him the technique I used to submit him at the end. Maybe you can use it on me during our rematch, mate 😉. I’m already looking forward to it! Don’t miss that guy!

We had an interesting gi vs nogi match where he indeed managed to put some typical gi grips on my rashguard. Chapeau fighter! I really enjoyed our relaxed rolling and also to show him some techniques afterwards. He's a great guy and highly recommendable!

We had a very special and unique match where we both were winning constantly without losing at all somehow: As with his Greco-Roman wrestling background he always tried to pin me what he reached indeed very often, whereas I tried to submit him what I also got quite often – especially via back mount when he was belly down once again 😜. Rolling with him was big fun. Also outside the mat he's a great guy with an impressing body. Don't miss him!

I finnaly met this chunk of positive energy on our open mat in Mechelen. In the few minutes every round counted, he made me tap 3 times, including with a feared omoplata. But isn't an open mat in the first place, an opportunity to have good encounters, meeting great people, learning techniques and in the last place sometimes making your opponent tap or nap out (such a loser-thing to say, but philosophical ;) ). Jokes aside, he is nice, friendly and funny dude (maybe feroucious during the bout, but aren't we all?). Knows his techniques and likes to share his experience. A rematch, altough I will probably have to tap sometimes, is not a question of "if" but "when". Komm schon Junge ;).

I had a roll with Hedloker UK during one of our regular open mats.
He is a small, lightweight but experienced BJJ’er. The roll was safe and exciting with some inversions and going back and forward from top to bottom. It does not often happen that I find someone less heavy who still manages to give me a good workout. So if you are looking for a good safe workout, Hedloker UK is your man.

I had the opportunity to roll with Muscularboy during one of our regular open mats.

We had been communicating on MF for a couple of years and finally got the chance to test our skills against each other. Muscularboy is both strong and charming, boasting an impressive base and solid defense. In a gi, I found myself at a disadvantage as he skillfully kept me grounded and managed to submit me.

I am now focused on training and building up my strength, so I can challenge him more in our next rematch!

Given our similar stats, I was delighted to have Matwix join us on our open mat.

As we started rolling, i noticed that both Matwix and I favor more reactive styles, preferring to respond to our opponents' initial moves. Fortunately, Matwix took the initiative, engaging first and skillfully evading my open guard. As he worked to top position, I was struck by the speed of his gameplay and the strength he possessed—his power-to-body ratio is remarkable, so one should not underestimate him based on appearance alone. It took two rounds for either of us to secure a submission, and I think his skill set as is on par with my own. Matwix is very self aware and was analyzing the roll we had and asking for some tips afterwards.

Off the mats, Matwix is highly sociable and inquisitive, always looking to make new connections and friendships. He's easy to converse with, and I'm looking forward to spending more time socializing with him during our next meeting.

I'm happy that Damly took the time to join us at our regular open mat session.

Damly enjoys rolling for the fun of it, maintaining a lighthearted approach without sacrificing the intensity of the match. We had a light roll, enjoying the atmosphere of the open mat and simply having a great time.

Additionally, Damly joined us for dinner the night before. Although we weren't seated together and didn't get much of an opportunity to converse, we shared a memorable moment rushing to catch his train back to Brussels. :D
